Yup, Beanie is still on breast milk at 15 months. Although my milk supply is really low these days, Beanie will still scream "Nei Nei!!! Nei Nei!!! Nei Nei!!!" in the mornings and nights, demanding to be latched.
If I were to ignore her, she would get really upset and cry really pitifully. So, I would usually cave in and latch her anyway.
I've tried to wean her by introducing fresh milk and she has also started drinking fresh milk, but she prefers to drink milk from a cup and not from a bottle. Therefore, she does not see fresh milk as a replacement to breast milk.
I am prepared to breastfeed her till about 18 months to 2 years old but hopefully not any older! Meanwhile, I better start the routine of getting Beanie to drink milk from a cup in the mornings and nights to kick start the weaning process.
When the demand stops, the supply will stop too. And I can finally have my boobs to myself again.

Better wean her off quickly because if you haven't by the time she becomes good with her fingers... she will undress you when you least expect (which could be in public) and latch herself on.
The urge to get at Mama's milk is very strong. You'll have to fight off small, insistent and nimble fingers.

Kameleon: Wah. JR will also demand to be breastfed huh? The main reason I wana wean Beanie by 2 yrs old because I will wana try for my 2nd one by then and I cannot imagine breastfeeding Beanie with a big stomach!
He doesn't demand lah. He doesn't ever ask for milk out of the house. Oh, and I made a point to refer as " milk" from very young.. Whether in English or Chinese. That way , if child asks for " milk", no one would bat an eye.
I did breastfeed through pregnancy with no.3, by the way. But no.2 weaned before my 9th month. He was nearly 2.5yo then.
As she begins to take more solids, the milk supply will slowly dry up, so you need not worry too much. She is suckling for comfort only.
Petunia is so concerned with you being exposed in public. *hehe* In reality, I've never experienced that at all. My nursing toddlers or preschoolers are too busy observing or playing in public to ask for "milk".
My 4yo is not shy about saying that he is still drinking "mommy's milk", but he will just not do it in public. I never taught him not to, but he just doesn't.
I think breastfeeding toddlers are the easiest of all. You don't have to worry if they are feeding often enough, no engorgement to care about. Very flexible. At the same time, if they get sick, it's the best remedy when they can't stomach anything else. Breastfeeding babies are the troublesome part - drippy, messy, don't latch properly, etc.
Oh, and @BlurTing, You are correct that the body adjusts well so that there is no oversupply, but the child may not just be suckling for comfort. To this day, I still hear my 4yo boy swallowing gulps of milk down his throat even though I cannot express much with my hands - couldn't be bothered anyhow. I often tease my son that "I have no more milk", then squeeze with my fingers to show "don't have"... then he'd be very amused and say "it's not like that!!! THen he's suck and say HAVE!!!". LOL.
Nursing babies/toddlers are still the best and most natural "pump". Mechanical ones are not.
