Dolly

Beanie and I were at the H&M recently and at the Kid's section, I came across this little cloth doll. It was on sale and only cost a grand total of 7 bucks! So I bought it for Beanie and we named her "Dolly"

The cool part about Dolly is that you can undress her totally (yes, you can even remove her underwear) and dress her in other outfits! I remembered that I really love to design and make clothes for my dolls when I was younger and I couldn't wait to make some clothes for Dolly!

So, Project Runway begins! I'm going to make a blouse and a skirt for Dolly.

I used an old dress to set a blouse for Dolly.

And I used an old sock for Dolly's skirt. Originally, I wanted to sew the ribbon as trimming for the skirt but I changed my mind when I realized that it would take me too much time to do so.

And what was Beanie while I was sewing Dolly's clothes? She didn't give 2 hoot about Dolly and her new clothes at all... ...

O well, I think Beanie has to grow up a little more to appreciate our Project Runway Sessions for Dolly.

To encourage creativity and to hone Beanie's fine motor skills, I stuck 2 pieces of mahjiong papers on the walls of my balcony to allow her to scribble and draw freely at her will.

I would first demonstrate by drawing apples and stars, sang happy songs to keep the session fun and interesting.

However, Beanie doesn't like to draw. She would either just stare at me blankly and then ran away to chase after Cookie for like the 100th times since 7 am in the morning, or she would just open my drawers and cupboards and proceed to empty them.

Nonetheless, I persisted. I continued with the "art class" weeks after weeks.

When I gave her crayons, she ended up using her little fingers to scrape and dig at the tips of the crayons.

When I gave her chalk, she had more fun breaking the chalk to small pieces and subsequently she tried to eat them!

When I gave her magic pens, she ended up drawing her hands, which I am ok with. At least she was drawing something!

But she has absolutely no interest in drawing on the mahjiong paper.

So one day, I bought water soluble paints and a brush and showed her how to paint.

Finally, she managed to keep herself busy for like 15 minutes! She was intrigued by the water changing color whenever she dipped the brush. She enjoyed splashing water all over the place and most importantly, she finally got the idea of holding the brush and begun to paint!

Yeah! That's an important milestone in my opinion!

If only the mess wasn't such a pain. Thankfully the helper could help me with the cleaning up!

Beautiful bouquet of flowers given by a friend as a X'mas gift

Flower arrangement No. 1 for CNY, my virgin attempt at flowers arrangement. Hub said this looked like a turtle.

During X'mas, a friend gave me a bouquet of flowers as a gift and it was a very much appreciated gift. It was very nicely arranged and I thought that my dinning area looked so much more festive and pleasant with some fresh flowers.

So, for this CNY, I took the trouble to hit the nursery at Thomson and bought some freshly cut flowers, 2 short vases, 1 huge sponge and a lot of enthusiasm to do some flowers jamming.

Hub raised his eyebrows and gave me an incredulous look. "You sure you know how to flower-arrange? It's not as easy as it looks ok.... ...."

"Bleah, how difficult can flowers arrangement be? Just stick the flowers into the sponge lah" I snorted.

Hrm... ... 1 1/2 hours later, I came to a conclusion that arranging flowers was indeed NOT one of my competitive strengths. Half the time, I was swearing under my breath while still trying to pretend that I was enjoying the whole flower-jamming process and at the same time, working very hard to ignore Hub's smug "I-told-you-so" look.

Ugh!

Ok, to all the florists out there, you have my respect!

Beanie's Closet

I made a headband and some clips for my friend's baby girl, but I can't resist getting Beanie to model for me. Haha... but my model needs more hair!

If I were to start a blogshop selling headbands and hair clips, I will brand the shop "Beanie's Closet". ;)

Little booties for little Beanie

Since Little Beanie is still happily hatching inside my tummy, I do have some spare time on my hands and I've managed to complete the orange pair of booties with a matching hat, as well as a pair of pink booties.

If Beanie is still not out soon... I'll start working on a pair of cream booties, something for her to wear when she is 6 mths old.

But seriously... I'll really prefer to have Beanie out and screaming!

Having a big stomach now means that I spend more time on my butt then on my feet. Although I do try my best to walk around, but it is getting more and more tiring for me to put one foot in front of the other...

I prefer to swim any day, swimming is my favorite form of exercise now. Only when Im in a pool, I can finally feel weightless although being the only hippo in the pool, kinda makes me self-conscious. Thankfully, the pool isn't usually crowded during weekdays' lunch hour. I try my best to swim at least twice weekly but I must confess that my low energy level barely allows me to crawl to the pool once a week.

Anyway, with more time on my butt, I can now work on producing more headbands and hair clips for my Little Beanie, as well as for my friends' little girls. Hmmm... I wonder how the headbands will look like on their little heads, gotta get my friends to post some photos!

Finally, ONE bootie is completed!

After many days of struggle, I have finally completed ONE bootie! Crocheting is definitey harder than it looks...

Now, I just gotta concentrate on the other bootie so that Beanie can have a pair to wear. ;)

Hub saw the photo and commented "who wears orange shoes???"

*sniff*

Well... girls with the classic orange Birkin bags from Hermes will definitely wear orange shoes! Ok, Mummy will make the orange shoes... hrm, Beanie just gotta make Daddy buy her the orange Birkin bag to match the shoes. (but Mummy will borrow once a while ok?)

More hair accessories!

Made another batch of hair accessories this weekend, a knitted headband with a cloth flower and more hair clips. ;)

Hrm... I realize that the headband might be too thick for a new born, so most probably that will only come in handy when Beanie is at least a few months old. And I also realize that Beanie might not have much hair to start with... so all these hair clips might not be useful until Beanie is older as well!

Guess I gotta make more headbands instead!

Have mothers noticed how much the shops are charging for hair accessories for little girls? I nearly vomited when I saw some shops are selling $6 for a pair of hair clips. Hallo? $6 for a pair??? I can making these with a cost of $0.60 for a pair.

And prettier, cuter somemore.

So I went shopping for materials, and made a few hair clips yesterday evening. It was a rather fun exercise and I enjoyed myself. ;)

I will definitely be making many more hair clips since I bought 2 big bags of raw clips... So, friends with baby daughters are in luck! ;p

Meanwhile, I will also try making some baby headbands and sock monkeys (soft toys) too!

Heh... Little Beanie is lucky to have a crafty mum like me! *stingy more like it!*
